More modifications to the bicycle stand !
I am sure that spring fever has got a hold of me. Over the last few days I have decided to build a stand for my bike as I have decided that I need to get in better shape.
The first ride I took after building the bike was good but the bike needed some tweaking and I got tired of kneeling to do so.
This photo is where I left off yesterday but, overnight I decided it needed some changes so that it would be more use full to me.
This piece had to be coped to fit well onto the 2.5" tubing I am using for the vertical stanchion portion of the stand, it is the receiver for the rotating addition .
after some cutting and drilling all the pieces fit together and are ready to b prepped to weld.
Here all 7.00$ of parts are ready to weld and are laid out on the fab table for a photo !
Here is the fit up which is not as good as I had hoped but the welds ran just fine as the following picture will show. This is mild steel 1/8" wall I used a 1.5% 3/32 lanthanated tungsten for these welds.
The usual attachment to the table via receiver .
I could not be happier with the end result it rotates and clamps and is very stable , when I have some more energy to weld I will add some support so that it can handle heavier bicycles but, for now it is ideal.
Rotated and level , pretty good build for 7 bucks in parts .

Some of today's projects .
I broke this brake lever when removing it so I figured why not try to repair it as I have not had the best of luck on cast aluminum in the past.
This repair went fairly well , I used 5356 filler metal and it welded fairly easily , I have a foot pedal so the amps were around 145 with about 15 cfh of argon flow .
after being hit with the belt sander the outside cleaned up nicely .
I used a 1/2" barrel burr on my drill press to smooth out the inside and it is a perfect fit again.
Next up I needed to build a stand for my bicycles that I could easily attach and remove from my table and this is what I came up with , it clamps to the table thusly .
The clamp was made from a piece of the pipe cut down to size , some old stainless steel 1/8" flat bar , a 1/2" nut and bolt and . a weld on hing. It works very well and hold the bicycle quite firmly in place.
I will likely add a gusset on the bottom edge before it is all said and done but for today it is finished enough that I can easily do some tuning ect ...

Shop Maintenance and New Tools
My 60 gal compressor has been down for a month or so. Today I found the time to get it tested to find that the motor had gone bad. After getting a dozen quotes I went with the Harbor Freight option (175.00 $ after tax), wired it up and it is good to go.
The reason for fixing it is a new addition to my tool arsenal , a sand ( media ) blasting cabinet. Working in the small area that I have it was a challenge to make space for but, this will make repairs on old rusted parts much easier and, enable the restoration of vintage parts that need to be painted and preserved.
Your run of the mill blast cab .
It is so nice not to have to deal with the various air tools around the shop running for a minute than having the pancake compressor kick on and having to wait.
The 60 gal is a huge time saver and I get max performance from the air tools .
This is a 5 outlet manifold I build from a part bought at a home brew supply and it works great.

Small Aluminum Job
This is a rack of some sort , I used 4043 filler wire and the welds are good but nothing to brag about .
Decent weld but not to pretty , I am not a fan of 4043 wire but it is what was called for.
I made this cross-member to help with fit up as the finished product had to be a precise fit .
