Some Building of Table Bases For Urban Reclamations.

Pretty straight forward 3" mild steel square tubing (.125 wall) MIG welded bases.

In a limited space the chop saw was one of the best tools I have bought recently.

MIG Welding Cart In Progress

So I bought this MIG Welder for a job and put it to work straight away, one of the problems I had was that I did not have a cart so, the welder sat to low and had to be moved around the fab table so the stinger would reach the far sides of the work piece. when the job took a few day pause I took the welder back to my shop and started Fab on a cart.

The following is a picture of the progress.

This is built on a old hand truck and is coming along nicely.
I will post more pictures when it is done.

MIG and More MIG , EH !

I have had a few days full of MIG welding , solid wire , pull the trigger and go! Here are some photos That were taken at Urban Reclamations during a few builds I am helping with there.

The first is a great example of how to tell if your travel speed is consistent or not.
Simply flip the work piece over and look at your Heat Effected Zone.
Giant X shaped table legs that were built from remnants from other projects .
40 Stool frames. 780" of weld overall was laid into these.
 Fillet weld.
 More fillet welds .

I Broke Down (MIG Time)

Normally I am Very TIG Centric but, today I broke down and bought a MIG welder for time and money saving sake. I do not like the way MIG welds look. That being said it is a much faster process for the majority of what comes through the shop so, I went overboard and bought a Miller 211 Autoset rated to 3/8" single pass and set it up for GMAW and started welding. The following are some pictures of the first welds with the new machine-

So shiny and new, it won't last !

Vertical downhill on 1/4" plate , it did not struggle.

The following are an outside corner and a fillet on 3/8" backing strips done in a single pass to see if the welder could actually do it. Again it did not struggle.

These welds were done with 75/25 gas mix around 15 CFH using .035 ER70S-6 solid wire.

I am very happy with the ease of operation and set up of this machine, it welds very well.

Latest Projects at Home .

This was a cast pump housing that was welded for a friend , 20 mins easy weld.

Below is a motorcycle that came in on trade. I chopped the rear end off and added some reinforcement to brace the frame and support the seat than modified a trailer fender to fit the rear end and added rear turn signals where the frame used to be. There is still some work to do but when it is done it will make a nice bike for whoever ends up buying it.

BBQ Rotisserie Progress .

Today I found some hours to work on the BBQ and, here are the photos .

The table I built some time ago sure comes in handy for builds like this.

Manually coped square tube for the receivers.

309 was used for this weld as the tubing was stainless (304)

Making the bar height adjustable .

Working out the drive shaft , 2 3/8" wobblers were used with an old slightly bent socket extension.
It works very well and the RPM can be adjusted from 1 - just under 3 per min.

HAPPY WELDING !!!!
